About the DHS Community Association

The DHS Community Association was founded in 2003 by a group of dedicated Dunwoody High School alumni and parents who wanted to stay connected and give back to the school that gave them so much. From the beginning, our goal has been simple: to strengthen the bond between Dunwoody High School, its alumni, and the surrounding community. What started as a small group of passionate Wildcats has grown into an organization that proudly supports DHS year after year.

What We Do

We support Dunwoody High School through scholarships, fundraising, and alumni engagement. Through the Wildcat Fund, we help fund scholarships, school programs, and special projects that benefit students across academics, athletics, fine arts, and more. We also proudly oversee the Dunwoody High School Athletic Hall of Fame, honoring athletes, coaches, alumni, and community members who have made a lasting impact. Our events and campaigns bring alumni and supporters together while investing directly in the future of DHS.

About Dunwoody High School

DHS is a small-town high school with endless amounts of school spirit. The annual Homecoming dance takes place in the gym and a parade is held on the afternoon preceding the big game. Pep Rallies are high-energy events held in the gym on Fridays before the Varsity football and basketball games, and the new theater fills up through the year for Improv shows, the Spring Musical, and the Variety Show.

History of DHS

Dunwoody High School opened its doors in 1972 as Dunwoody was growing from a quiet bedroom community into a vibrant suburb of Atlanta. DHS graduated it’s first class in 1975, and in 1988 merged with Peachtree High School. The 2 schools compromised to join the school colors of red, white, and blue from Peachtree and the DHS Wildcat mascot to give Dunwoody High the spirited look it has today.

In 2010-11 DHS received a $20 million renovation that included additional classrooms, science labs, computer lab, mass communications broadcast studio, and 500 seat auditorium with a performance stage.

With a strong tradition of academics and athletics, Dunwoody has graduated students that have gone on to become prominent in business, professional sports, entertainment, and politics.

Over the last 4 decades, families have continued to choose Dunwoody as a place to live and work, raise and educate their children. Today, Dunwoody High School is a cornerstone of the community supported by 6 elementary feeder schools and 1 middle school.

Wildcat Pride

On a typical afternoon after school, students are meeting for academic bowl or math team practice, running on the track for cross-country practice, or on the field for band, lacrosse, or football practice.

Academics

Dunwoody High School offers excellent academic opportunities for students in grades 9-12, including 26 AP classes and the option for dual enrollment at Georgia State University, located less than a mile from the DHS campus. Our students are consistently accepted into the top colleges and universities throughout the United States.

Technology

The latest technology, including computers, smart boards, and online collaborative tools, are available to students in the school’s computer labs, classrooms, and from home.

Block Schedule

DHS operates on a four by four block schedule during the school year, allowing students to complete a full year class in one semester and accelerate areas of particular interest, such as foreign language, finance, and marketing, mass communications, science or technology. Two career academies are offered to Juniors and Seniors. The Academy of Finance and Academy of Mass Communications prepares students for future careers through a combination of school-based curricula and work-based experiences.

Fine Arts, Clubs, Athletics

A broad range of classroom and extra-curricular opportunities are available to students in everything from music to visual arts and fencing to chess.  DHS has over 50 clubs supported by faculty sponsors and boasts more than 15 sports for both boys and girls.
